Jim Hay makes a contribution
to the SAQA Benefit AUCTION

My exhibition in Japan approached. I needed much studio time and Covid 19 just forced its way in unbidden. The days were overlaid with shadow, frustration and silent rage. To keep working I challenged myself to make thirty 12”x12” face portraits using neither sketches nor models. I did complete the thirty, but some became dark, abstract, even non-objective. For example, a pool game expression came into my mind when I looked at the number eight. It was so appropriate for the times we were living through. “Behind the Eight Ball” means being in a bad position or out of luck.
The 2022 SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) Benefit Auction will take place online from September 9 through October 2. With hundreds of beautiful artwork available for bidding, there is something for everyone to enjoy!
